Discovering and exploring Teesdale is a real joy. Upper Teesdale and Lower Teesdale present a truly remarkable region that simply awaits your personal attention. There are immense riches of nature, geology and history to be experienced and enjoyed. Combined with its peace and tranquility, this creates a unique region and perhaps the most complete in all of England! The main settlements are Barnard Castle and Middleton-in-Teesdale but there is a wealth of quaint, beautiful villages including Romaldkirk, Eggleston, Cotherstone, Newbiggin-in-Teesdale, Bowes and Staindrop.
Furthermore, it shares a boundary with the Yorkshire Dales National Park and, for many years, enjoyed the reputation of being the most northerly of the Yorkshire Dales!
There are a wealth of visitor attractions to enjoy including High Force Waterfall (England’s largest waterfall), Low Force Waterfall, Cauldron Snout (England’s longest cascade), Raby Castle with Gardens and Deer Park, Barnard Castle, Bowes Castle, Brough Castle, Eggleston Hall Gardens, Eggleston Abbey, Rokeby Park and Bowlees Visitor Centre.
Such are its wildlife and landscape treasures, that large expanses of Teesdale are protected within the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. In addition, such is the importance of its unique geology and landforms, that this was also the first UNESCO European Geopark in Britain… and is now also part of the network of Global Geoparks!
What better pedigree could it have?
